If you are comfortable managing Linux, Nginx or Apache, PHP-FPM, Redis, backups, updates, and incidents yourself, Cloudways is expensive compared with a plain VPS. If you are running client WordPress sites, WooCommerce stores, or busy PHP applications and want fewer server chores, the markup can be easy to justify.
What Cloudways Does Well
The strongest part of Cloudways is the everyday operational layer. You can create an application, attach a domain, install SSL, tune PHP versions, enable Redis, schedule backups, and clone to staging without touching SSH. None of those tasks is hard for an experienced admin, but they are exactly the things that trip up small teams.
